The California Air Resources Board (CARB) discovered a software cheat in an older Audi car with an automatic transmission\u00a0during the summer. Audi\u2019s parent company Volkswagen Group confirmed the software could produce inaccurate results during emissions testing,\u00a0Reuters reports.After two German publications, Bild am Sonntag and Sueddeutsch Zeitung,\u00a0wrote about the software in the past week, VW responded to Sueddeutsch Zeitung\u2019s Saturday article by email on Sunday, stating,\u00a0\u201cAdaptive shift programs can lead to incorrect and non-reproducible results\u201d during testing.CARB found that when the software detected that the steering wheel was not turned as it would\u00a0be in normal driving it would lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. So in emissions testing when the car wasn\u2019t being steered the results would be different than when the car was driven on the road.
